What is your wedding chair style?

One of the things that I sometimes love and then sometimes hate about my job is actually the wedding chair - A lot of hotels and event venues have really ugly chairs, but they do match the red, blue, yellow, orange and green swirl carpet (that is another story).  Anyway, one of the really great ways to really set off your decor is the chair that your guests sit in.  I've complied some photos of different chair styles that you could use for your own wedding.

The blue ones below are actually tops that go over chavari chairs, with the royal blue lighting and matching linens you really didn't need any centerpieces! This photo is from the Association of Bridal Consultants annual conference - a lunch that we attended.

The photo below are the satin self wrapped chair covers (because the chairs were large) and then added a bow.  For the reception we removed the bow, tied the self wrapped chairs and did a two for one deal with a totally different look!

The typical color chair cover and satin bow wrap. This one has a diamond ring within the ribbons

Other chair covers you can condsider:

If  you really HATE chair covers then there are other options to - other than of course the chavari chair which everyone uses.  See below for some other great options.

Above is the fantastic Ghost Chair - availble in all colors but I still think the clear is the best! What shine and ads a little - WOW! to your reception!

Above are some chair rentals from Chamelon, talk about wow - not only that but the above come in all different colors!

Why not treat your guests with something great to sit in - and look at!

A lot of brides and designers may not think that the chair is important, but if you want to produce that event with a little punch - don't forget the chair!!

Feel free to contact us with any questions on where to get the rentals above for your event!

Sylvia Weinstock Cakes

Back in November at the ABC Annual Conference I had the opportunity of meeting Sylvia Weinstock and listening to her speak about her cakes and weddings and things that were just her passion.  I learned alot from her that day.  She's a funny, very smart, and very talented woman.  One thing she said really caught me and I'll be implmenting this in the reminder of my weddings:

After the ceremony have the bride and groom ONLY announced and have them go into their first dance, then straight from the first dance have them cut the cake.

Usually I have the bride and groom cut the cake AFTER dinner but then this really does put a little stress on the catering staff to hurry and get it done, where as if the cake is cut BEFORE dinner it can be served immediately.

Just food for thought... :)

Lighting Up Your Reception

The new trend in lighting is beyond an overhead truss or T-bar system this would include what you hear on TV as Pin Spotting (usually done on centerpieces or the cake from above). With our upscale events, we've been offering “up-lighting or wall washes.” Instead of lights that just beam down, we spread our lights out more evenly throughout the room and cast color throughout the room, and project gobo/images or names and initials onto walls and ceilings and splash color on pillars and recessed ceilings and brighten walls and corners. The room then takes on a completely different feel. If you are confused about what you want for your wedding day here are some great definitions:

Pin spot A focused beam of light that shines directly onto an object, like a centerpiece or wedding cake, as a highlight effect, the light is above and facing down.

Wall Wash or Up Lighting There are a few different types of light fixtures that can create a "wash," which is basically a blanket of colored light covering an entire area.

Gobo is a circular stencil that is placed over a light to project a design or pattern. Popular gobo designs are monograms, dates, or any other wedding motifs. The complexity of the design will affect the gobo's cost -- a simple stencil can be stamped out of steel, while a more intricate design must be laser etched out of stainless steel or a glass that can withstand high heat (costing much more than a stamped stencil).

LED Short for light-emitting diodes, LED lights are currently popular for weddings because they use much less electricity (and don't get as hot) than regular, incandescent light bulbs. This means they can sometimes be wireless, so they're even that much more discreet. LEDs are great for color changes and vibrant colors. They're also common in strands and good for accent lighting. These are usually more expensive because the lights themselves are more expensive.

If your wedding will be in a hotel ballroom’s architecture. You can use lighting to draw attention to any interesting details -- if there are elaborate columns try highlighting them with up lighting at the base of each. If you are at a bed and breakfast and there’s a fireplace it’s a great place to put just a bunch of scented candles in different sizes from large pillars to small votives or even line a pathway with votive candles set in colored glass or use white luminaries to light the way.

Give us a call or e-mail us today, we'll meet you at your venue and do a walk through to see what kind of lighting would be best for your venue and your budget.  Rental of our uplighting cans start at $35 each which includes set up and removal and your color on the walls!

We’ve found some really great photos on the net and we’ve included some in this blog for you!

Cake Toppers...Does Anyone Use Them Anymore?

Cake Toppers...more and more I'm seeing brides have the cake baker create or add flowers to the tops of the cakes.  Just a year ago I seen more monogram cake toppers than I had ever imagined.  About four years or more ago I had my own monogram cake toppers :)  We had one for my husband, one for me and one for each of our girls on a 3 tier cake, it was a good way to incorporate the girls into our day other than have them walk down the aisle.

Anyway, I think cake toppers are fun and sometimes really funny.  I've posted some pictures of some of my favorites all from one of our favorite vendors.

I must be more traditional than I thought...but my ultimate favorite cake topper...

Talk about BLING!!!
